Book Discussion: The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod

January's book discussion is on The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, which is a series by Heather Brewer. These books came recommended to us by a reader, and I can tell you right now that I am not disappointed by them!

The order of the series is pretty easy, as it follows Vlad's years in school:
1. Eighth Grade Bites
2. Ninth Grade Slays
3. Tenth Grade Bleeds

We'll be having our in-person discussion of books at the Tecumseh Branch Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana, on January 7th at 3:30 p.m. You don't have to wait 'til then to voice your opinion, though! Join in the discussion right now by posting a comment below.

I'll admit that I didn't expect Eighth Grade Bites to be as riveting as it turned out to be. The book looked small, thin, and I guess with all the other supernatural books that we've read, I have gotten used to the idea that the thicker the book, the more involved I tend to be in the story and it's characters.

Vladimir Tod really grabbed me right away. The character is three dimensional, and his relationships with friends and family evolves through the series. I like Vlad, I sympathize and empathize with him, and I just couldn't wait to see how each of the episodes turns out.

I felt that the author really writes a strong plot, real characters, and doesn't waste ink or pages to make a point. In this way, maybe The Vlad Chronicles will entice readers who may be turned off on longer, thicker books. I also like the fact that in this series, the protagonist is a guy, and that guy is just a regular teen who happens to be a vampire.

Ive read all three books, and the series remains strong, never failing to appeal to me. In the third book, we really see Vlad becoming a strong, formidable character, and less a child victim, as he takes on adult villians. Vlad is like the Harry Potter of vampires, and I look forward to seeing how he deals with future adversity as the series expands.
